When you’re just getting started with facial fillers, it can be confusing to know what’s right and what’s not. That’s because there’s a huge amount of information available online. How will you know if the type of improvement you are considering to change your appearance is possible or not? Or what best options do you have? It’s important to consult an experienced injector about your goals – but in the meantime, here’s what to know about injectables and how you can benefit.
How Injectables and Fillers Can Help
Injectables and fillers are normally used to plump or smooth the skin. Here are some of the common uses:
- Plump and define the lips
- Smooth lines around the mouth, nose, and upper lip
- Restore volume to cheeks or cheekbones
- Reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
It’s always best to consult with a knowledgeable nurse injector, particularly if you’re considering fillers for the first time. During your consultation, you’ll have an in-depth conversation with an experienced and licensed injector on what exactly you want to achieve. Your injector can recommend the right injectable and create a customized treatment plan based on your goals.
What to Expect Following Your Injection
Day One
The first day involves several things. Your injector will discuss your goals with you and evaluate your facial anatomy. They will also take photos and cleanse the treatment area so it remains sterile during the injection process. Once the product is in place, you can return home with your aftercare instructions.
Day Two and Three
Try to avoid messing around with your face too much for the next few days, as it can irritate the area. The injection site will be slightly swollen and bruised on the second and third days but this is perfectly normal. You should keep it moisturized with gentle circles and avoid squeezing or squishing the area with your fingers. You can also use ice to reduce swelling and discomfort.
Day Three to Four
Swelling at this point will start to reduce but is still visible. You’ll also start seeing your treated area taking its intended shape. Most discomfort should be subsided by now.
Day 14
Swelling and bruising will be gone completely and your face will have healed. This is the time to go for a follow-appointment for any adjustments and touch-ups if necessary.
Six months and beyond
Most patients will begin to experience some metabolism of the filler product and can return for re-injection at this point. This can be different based factors like your specific filler, workout regimen, and natural metabolism, however. Your injector will make sure you understand when to return.
